PRESS: Ministry asks for more time to prepare amendments for eSIMs
MOSCOW, Feb 6 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has asked to prolong the time given to prepare necessary regulations to legalize embedded SIM cards, eSIMs, till December, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing a report of former Minister Konstantin Noskov.
According to the report, submitted to the government in late 2019, a biometry system, which operators offered to remotely identify subscribers, is a problem for introduction of eSIMs, because the system lies outside of the legal framework and raises questions about its security.
Deputy Minister Oleg Ivanov said there are no regulatory restrictions for expansion of eSIMs, and the problem is in the absence of a system of online identification.
T2 RTK holding, working under brand Tele2, has been the first Russian mobile operator to start testing eSIMs.
